1.) Which media equipment is available in your school?

2.)Does the sixth form have different possibilities in usage than the lower grade?

Concerning 1.,2.): The school possesses three computer rooms. In one room there exist 25 computers which are up-to-date and some older ones. Every pupil who has a so called “computer license” is allowed to use the computer in order to do research on the internet or create a power point presentation. Via login the user has 2 GB memory capacity on his disposal. He is allowed to download and save all kinds of data as long as the content and the saving is legal. Normally the pupils pass the “computer license I” in the 7th grade. During the next two years the have to pass the “computer license II” until the 9th grade. Two further computer licenses can be optionally passed by attending specific computer classes. As the school is an financially independent school (which means that they control the budget and decide on their own how and where to invest the money they possess), the friends of the school could achieve two mobile laptop stations. This can be understood as a mobile desk which contains of 20 laptops. The teacher who wants to work with his class can decide whether to use the mobile stations or the computer rooms. This depends on the topic and on the availability of the stations.

The sixth form normally gets a pragmatical introduction in order to set up a basic understanding for the technical aspects. This means that the pupils understand afterwards how a computer can be booted, how you install vocabulary learning programmes and how to use the internet on a very low level. Sometimes, depending on the teacher and/or the topic they have to write texts on the computer for homework.

After a pupil has passed the “computer license II”, he should be able to create presentations and handouts on the computer. The knowledge of how to do research on the internet is deepened. So some teacher expect from their class to give presentations supported by new media.

In the sixth form every pupil has to hold at least one presentation per year including new media. As the school possesses several beamers, it is no problem to create their presentations via Power Point or other presentation programmes. The school seems to strive for the aim that every pupil learns the responsible handling with the new media, especially topics concerning form and content of presentations.
